Mercer Seeds is a generational pedigreed seed farm where we grow, clean, treat, and retail cereal, pulse, and oilseed crops for local and international customers. We focus on providing our customers with the newest genetics and highest quality seed. Using machinery such as disc drills, sectional control sprayers and stripper headers we practice the latest precision agricultural techniques for soil management and moisture conservation. In addition to retailing seed Ryan works extensively with customers, helping them to make the most efficient rotational and agronomic decisions and sharing the knowledge he has gained from partnerships with various research organizations such as Farming Smarter.
Mercer Seeds Ltd. was incorporated in 1975 by Lloyd and Connie Mercer. Their son Ryan and his wife Annette bought into the company and took over full management in 2003. Ryan’s sister Tammy and brother-in-law Les own land supplying Mercer Seeds with additional pedigreed seed to meet growing demand. The next generation is involved in the farming operation, helping anywhere from yard and field work to equipment maintenance.
Ryan and Annette are Alberta Outstanding Young Farmers alumni from 2010. Both are active in their community, serving in their church, school, and on various boards. They enjoy summer and winter activities with friends and family.
Ryan is a proud fourth generation farmer who uses the knowledge passed down through the years along with modern technology to produce the best crops.
James grew up working hard and learning on the farm. He has completed the Ag-Science program at Lethbridge Polytechnic and is preparing to fully step into the family business.
